Leveraging Personal Change Capacity in the Workplace: An Innovative New Approach to Manage Talent and Navigate Change
Research shows that there is typically a 20-50-30 split within an organization’s workforce in terms of change capacity: 20% drivers, 30% blockers, and 50% of the employees are in the middle. In order for organizations to access this workforce intelligence and make data-driven decisions across all layers of the organization, it is paramount to identify those who demonstrate a tendency to drive organizational change, block change, or those who maintain a level of general ambivalence. Additionally, just as critical as identifying one’s change behavior tendency, is accurately pinpointing talent data for growth and development.
In this interactive session we translate research into talent management practice. We offer new insights to consultants, executive coaches, HR executives, and organizational leaders to better anticipate and successfully manage change. We will identify those in an organization who possess that "fire in their belly" to make change happen. We will introduce our psychometrically validated talent analytics that measures the seven critical change-related behaviors that drive or thwart change and innovation in the workplace. We will discuss strategies and placement of talent in relation to one's personal change capacity in order to utilize the strengths of each employee more resourcefully in the organizational change management process.
Andrea Schlaerth, PhD is an I/O Psychologist with over 10 years experience in project management, training, and organizational development consulting in a variety of industries including healthcare, higher education, entertainment, government, and social service organizations. She published her research in the Group Processes & Intergroup Relations journal and has co-authored a book chapter, currently in press, for the Encyclopedia of Mental Health, 2nd Edition by Elsevier. Andrea’s research has also been presented at the International Congress of Psychology Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, and at the Association for Psychological Science Annual Convention in New York. She was an adjunct professor at the Master of Arts in Organizational Psychology, Organizational and Leadership Psychology Department at MSPP. She is currently an adjunct faculty at the Leadership Ph.D. doctoral program at the School of Management, Alliant International University in San Diego, and at the Organizational Psychology Ph.D. program at the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles.
