Presented by Maxine Shapiro

In 2010 & 2011, Maxine Shapiro introduced ASTD-LA to the application of Improvisation and her Collaborcate!™ and “Inside the Box” training. This roll-up-sleeves-and- dive-in workshop received such a positive response that Max has agreed to bring it back for another full day workshop.

What is the workshop about?

Improvisation in training is one of the most exhilarating forces in our industry today.  It’s about change and listening and reacting and being authentic. It’s risky, fun and engaging and it always takes the trainer and the participant to a new level.

This is not you-and-your-boss-are-standing-at-a-bus-stop improv.  This is the application of improvisation and the use of the most powerful components that effect change, cooperation and collaboration.

So, for six hours you’re going to do just that – you’ll experience improvisation and the exercises that will help you in your training, coaching and life.  You’ll learn new games that you can tailor-make to whatever hard or soft skills your teaching.  I’m going to challenge you to look at your modules and your own mode of operation and see how flexible you are in your process.

You will learn how to:

  • Incorporate new styles into your own modules
  • Respond with grace and energy when you are put on the spot
  • Engage your audiences in a whole new way

Who should attend?

  • If you’re a little nervous – come.
  • If you’re excited – come
  • If you’re curious – join us as we explore the realm of improvisation and learn new ways of doing what we love - helping others be the best they can be.

Who is presenting the workshop session?

Maxine is a vibrant speaker and training professional whose quick wit and passion for excellence has created a national demand for her Inside the Box and Collaborcate!™ workshops and keynotes. Maxine is a 25-year veteran of the business world  - from the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade to being a weekly financial  guest commentator on NPR’s “Marketplace.”  She’s also accomplished actor and comedienne and was a student of the Second City Improv Lab. Thousands of people  have benefited from Max’s innovative training ranging from FOX Entertainment Group to the Federal Reserve Bank, from Papyrus to Fundraising Professionals. Commanding topics include leadership, creativity & innovation, customer service and brainstorming.

Here’s what other participants said:

I just wanted to take a minute to share how amazing my experience for the “Inside the Box” training was. Here at Zappos, we are encouraged and empowered to integrate our passions into whatever job it is we are doing. ..I loved your energy and commitment to every second of the day. The games were impactful, entertaining, thoughtful, created connection with the whole class. All in all, it was the most eye-opening seminar I’ve ever been to… Thank you again for your commitment to the process!”

“Today I went to Maxine Shapiro's workshop on Improvisation. It was GREAT. Maxine is a dynamic presenter and she provided us specific exercises we can use in training right away. It was packed full with these exercises that can be transferable to a variety of circumstances.I came away with more useful stuff from this workshop than I have in any workshop for quite a while.”
